The Pakistani Punjab administration has banned TikTokers – content creators who use the TikTok video sharing platform – from entering all public parks in the province.
The Punjab Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) announced the ban on Sunday following an incident that allegedly killed a woman attacked by hundreds while filming video in Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore on August 14, according to a report by Pakistani news portal ARY News.
The report states: “All Tiktokers must obtain permission from the affected PHAs to enter parks”.
Earlier, in her complaint, a woman said she was attacked by 300 to 400 people in Minar-e-Pakistan, Lahore, while filming a video on Pakistani Independence Day. She said her clothes were torn and thrown in the air by the crowd. A video of the Lahore incident went viral on social media.
In her ad, the woman said that a friend of hers who was with her during the incident was also attacked.
She said the mob also stole her earrings and her friend’s cell phone and ID card. The crowd snatched them 15,000 rupees, she said.
The police have ordered an investigation into the incident.
According to ARY News, police arrested at least 130 people and “identified 40 people” who were involved in the incident.
Pakistan had previously banned the Chinese-based short video platform TikTok because of “inappropriate content”.
