She is one of the largest content creators in India. Her YouTube channel MostlySane has over 6 million followers. She also won the Daytime Emmy Awards for the standout Daytime Non-Fiction Special for Creator of Change. She is none other than Prajakta Koli and was one of the guest speakers at e-Mind Rocks 2021. Prajakta talked about her YouTube trip and her first meeting with Michelle Obama.
Prajakta Koli announced that she started her YouTube channel because she had no choice but to give up her radio job. “It started when I was in the sixth standard. I knew what I wanted to do in life. When I was in grade 6, I decided I wanted to be a radio jockey. My whole life has been like this – everything was planned. Everything worked according to plan until I got my own show and realized that I was terrible at this job. It was a huge shock to me. I was in a place that I was – anything but radio. I was so demotivated that I didn’t know what to do. So, Sudeep, who is also managing me now, met me at the radio station and said to me, ‘Look, your energy is pretty fun, did you think of starting a YouTube channel?’ That was almost 6 years ago and I had no idea about it. I was desperate at the time and wanted to get out of the radio and discover something new. That’s how YouTube started for me. I got into it because I didn’t have an option, but I think it was the best decision, ”she said.
Prajakta’s mom is a huge fan of all of the content creators on YouTube. “My parents, especially my mother, are huge fans of all YouTubers. She knows everything and everyone, ”she added.
Prajakta talks about how she came up with the idea of creating thoughtful content during the pandemic. “The second wave was disastrous and yes, we were all personally affected. I lost someone close to me. My shortcoming was that when I introduced a new term, no one spoke about it in simpler terms so that I could understand it. We saw scientific articles and scientists talking about these things. But there was no one who could explain these things more simply. I had little questions on my mind. I thought if I feel this many others might have the same problem. So I talked to my team and then I developed this content to explain these things to people, ”she said.
Did you know that Prajakta Koli is a huge fan of Canadian comedian Lilly Singh? “I am a big fan of Lily Singh. I think she has done phenomenal accomplishments for content creators all over the world. When I started my YouTube channel, my only reference was Lilly. I am also a huge fan of Lisa. I worked with her last year which was amazing. I think everyone in India is so good. When I started I was her fan and now I can call her my friends. I like Ashish’s content, Nick, Bhuvan and many others. But if there is anyone whose videos I look forward to, it’s Ellen DeGeneres
When asked whether Prajakta Koli is single, the answer comes: “No, I’m not single. I met my boyfriend when I was 18. “
Prajakta Koli also shared her experience working in the film Jug Jugg Jeeyo. “I started working on Jug Jugg Jeeyo almost 1 month before Mismatched was released. I was also very nervous because it was my first film. The idea was that it was Dharma Productions too, so everyone is going to be very intimidating. But when I got there I realized that these are a bunch of people who love their job and are brilliant at what they do. They are performers and they are artists and they have been very welcoming. I learned so much from them. “
But perhaps the most fulfilling day at work for her was when she met Michelle Obama. “I think that was my favorite day at work. I was nervous before I met Michelle Obama, but when I met her it was all gone because she hugged me so tightly and that nervous energy was gone. “
