On Monday morning, rockets were fired at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul and repulsed by the air defense system installed at the airport.

The missiles were fired from a vehicle near Khorshid Private University, near the Lab Jar Khairkhana intersection, towards Kabul airport.

This comes a day after the US launched an air strike that destroyed a vehicle laden with explosives, hours after President Joe Biden warned of another terrorist attack amid the evacuation.

Initial reports said several missiles had flown over Kabul and the targets were unclear.

A journalist based in Afghanistan said: “At least two rockets were launched from Kabul’s Laab-E Jaar at 6:40 am at Hamid Karzai International Airport.

He tweeted: “Residents of Arya Municipality in Kabul ‘Rockets were fired at Hamid Karzai International Airport but exploded in midair and shrapnel fell like raindrops on Arya Municipality.’

American officials said the bombers had planned to attack Kabul International Airport, where a massive airlift was underway ahead of the deadline for US forces withdrawal on Tuesday.
