Thousands disregard the Covid rules to celebrate the Bonalu festival in Hyderabad
Throwing caution to the wind, thousands gathered Hyderabad, without masks and social distancing, to celebrate the bonalu festival. A large crowd, including police officers and politicians, violated the Covid rules to attend the festival.
It even happens when Telangana Prime Minister K Chandrashekar Rao held a cabinet meeting discussing the Covid-19 situation in the state on Sunday. After a spike in Covid-19 cases, it was decided to step up Covid testing in as many counties in the state.
The procession was taken out under police protection and the festival ended peacefully. However, health experts asked questions about such a community amid the pandemic situation.
Telangana has reported at least 2 Delta Plus cases, while the number of cases has been steadily increasing in at least 10 counties across the state.
