US President Joe Biden said in his address on Monday that American forces do not have to die in a war that Afghan troops are unwilling to wage themselves.
“We spent over a trillion dollars. We gave the Afghans every chance. But we couldn’t give them the will to fight for their future,” said Joe Biden.
He said that things were developing faster in Afghanistan than the US expected.
“Afghan political leaders gave up and fled the nation. The military collapsed, in some places without fighting. More years in Afghanistan would have made no difference. The US troops bore the brunt of the burden,” said Joe Biden.
US President Joe Biden said last week’s developments showed that America’s decision to withdraw its troops was the right one. “We cannot fight and die in a war that the Afghan armed forces do not want to wage for themselves,” he said.
