The United States will airlift its largest ever air evacuation of the last of its troops from Kabul by Tuesday, Jan.

Just a day before the US missile defense withdrawal was complete Intercepted missiles at Kabul airport when it flew its core diplomats out of Afghanistan.

The missiles were intercepted the day after a US military drone attack in Kabul, in which a vehicle carrying “multiple suicide bombers” was hit on the way to Kabul airport.

In another development, the Taliban said that Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the top leader of the group, was in Kandahar. The announcement came after media reports surfaced about the whereabouts of the top Taliban leader.

1. Last hours of US withdrawal: The US withdrew its core diplomatic staff on Monday as it entered the final hours of its chaotic retreat from the war-torn country. The last US troops are to be withdrawn from Kabul by Tuesday, August 31, the deadline for withdrawal. The August 31 troop withdrawal deadline was set by US President Joe Biden, fulfilling an agreement his predecessor Donald Trump had made with the Taliban to end Washington’s longest war.

Taliban troops have meanwhile taken up positions at Kabul airport and are ready to take full control once the US forces depart.

5. Taliban kill 14 people of the Hazara minority: The Taliban reportedly shot and killed 14 people from the Hazara community in Khadir district in Daykundi province, Afghanistan. Among those killed are 12 soldiers who allegedly surrendered and two civilians.

That comes a month after The Taliban tortured and killed nine men from the Hazara minority and ransacked their homes in Ghazni province in early July, human rights group Amnesty International said.
