After a massive landslide in Joshimath village in Uttarakhand two weeks ago, a hotel built on top of the NTPC tunnel collapsed on Saturday.

Much of the hotel suddenly collapsed on the side of the cliff on Saturday afternoon and slid over the edge of the cliff.

Fortunately, local police and SDRF had prematurely evacuated the hotel because of the potential risk of another landslide.

While the main gate leading into the tunnel was also completely destroyed by NTPC, the hotel in question is believed to have cracked during the landslide that hit the area 14 days ago.

Landslides on the Badrinath National Highway are a constant concern.

On July 25, several landslides occurred in front of the tunnel of the Tapovan-Vishnugad Hydroelectric Project, leading to a landslide at Jhadkula on the Badrinath Highway.

After the landslide under the hotel was reported, Joshimath officials ordered the building to be evacuated.

In the meantime, the demolition of the Badrinath Highway has begun.
