Opposition leaders from 15 parties, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, marched from Parliament towards Vijay Chowk and intensified protests against the center over the excitement, chaos and repeated adjournments of the monsoon session.
With a number of opposition leaders next to him, Rahul Gandhi said: “We raised the Pegasus question, inflation and the peasant question, but we were not allowed to speak in parliament. We had to come here today to speak to you because we are not allowed to speak in Parliament. That is the murder of democracy. “
“This is the first time MEPs have been attacked in parliament. Outsiders were brought in to beat the MPs. Why do you speak over the chairman’s tears“, Asked Rahul Gandhi.
“The voice of 60% of the country was crushed, humiliated and physically beaten yesterday,” said Rahul Gandhi, who launched a sharp attack on the center because of the chaotic parliamentary process throughout the monsoon session.
Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut joined the opposition attack, saying: “People from outside were brought into parliament wearing marshal clothes and attacking female MPs. That is the murder of democracy every day. “
Raut added that it felt like he was standing at the Pakistani border rather than in parliament. Samajwadi Party leaders were also present at the opposition protests in Vijay Chowk on Thursday.
A scuffle broke out Rajya Sabha between the opposition MPs and marshals. Some female Rajya Sabha MPs in Congress said they were ill-treated by male marshals while protesting in the house’s well.
NCP leader Sharad Pawar said that in his 55 years in parliament he had never seen MPs attacked in Rajya Sabha, unlike on Wednesday.
However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi called for tough action against opposition lawmakers, saying they mistreated the marshals amid the riot in the Rajya Sabha.
Joshi described opposition claims that marshals mistreated their MPs as “totally false” and said facts could be verified from CCTV footage.
