In a horrific incident that emerged, a 15-year-old girl was gang raped by 29 people, including two minors, in the Thane district of Maharashtra for several months between January and September.
The defendant used videos of the repeated assault to blackmail and rape her again. The incident became known when the underage victim finally approached the Manpada police station in Dombivali on Wednesday night.
Additional Police Commissioner Dattatray Karale said, “The victim approached the Manpada Police Station and told about the ordeal she had been through over the past nine months. She named 29 people who were involved in the sexual assault on her that occurred between January and September 22 of this year. “
“We immediately carried out a special operation and arrested 23 defendants, including two minors,” said the ACP, which further added: “The defendants involved were known to the victim and had them on various occasions in Dombivali, Rabale, Murbad, Badlapur and a few others Places.”
The defendants were slapped in sections for group rape and POCSO (Protection of Children against Sexual Delikts Act). “ACP Sonali Dole has been appointed to investigate the case and DCP Sachin Gunjal and I will be closely monitoring the case,” he added.
Police officers further revealed that one of the defendants, who was friends with her, sexually assaulted her in January and also made a video of the incident.
This video then reached the other defendants, who blackmailed them and repeatedly attacked them on various occasions. The victim has now been hospitalized and his condition is said to be stable.
In the meantime, the police have also targeted the areas where the victim was attacked and forensic teams have also been called in to investigate.
The investigative team is also collecting electronic evidence, including the video captured by the accused friend of the victim. Most of the defendants involved are from the same locality and were known to the victim and her friend, who is the main defendant in the case, who allegedly circulated the video he originally shot.
