Many years ago the Indian cell phone companies carried out a survey. India is the largest growing cellular market. Over a hundred million cell phones are added every year. In the survey, they found that 97 percent of people only use 7 percent of the capabilities of the cell phone – that was true of the dumb phone, not even today’s smartphones. They concluded that when they remove 90 percent of the software, people don’t even notice.
If this is the case with a small device like this, what do you suspect about this complex device – the human system? If you ask me which potential people working average, I would say that it is well below 1 percent. If it goes up a percentage point or two, people suddenly think you’re superhuman.

That happened to me a while ago. I happened to be at a public conference where I was exposed to people other than those who are usually around me. And my daily schedule is twenty to twenty-two hours a day. I travel and drive. Millions of different things happen day and night. In this moment I am holding a spiritual discourse, in the next moment I drive, in the next moment I talk about building, in the next moment, something else. They said, “Sadhguru, are you superhuman? You don’t sleep, you don’t eat, you keep going on and on.” I said, “This is not about being superhuman. It’s about realizing that being human is great.”

When people say, “I am only human,” they are only referring to their weaknesses, inabilities and meanness. This is the misfortune of humanity – they didn’t realize that being human was great, so they keep thinking of some other super thing up there. That is why there is so much talk of God. If you eat a piece of bread now, you can turn it into a human in a few hours. Suppose I bring a piece of bread and make it human in front of you – who would you take me for? Must be the creator! But you do it every day.

The human body was not created from anywhere. It is created from within. The source of creation pulsates within you. Every day a miraculous event happens inside you that everything you eat becomes human. But you didn’t pay attention because you think all it’s worth is out there. No, everything that’s worthwhile is here in you.
People talk about God, Godmen or Goddamn people all the time because they didn’t realize the immensity of being human. The very source of creation is trapped in you and works miracles after miracles every day. If you pay just a little bit of attention to this, once you have accessed it, once you touch it, your life will become so magical that people will think you are superhuman. It’s not superhuman; it is the possibility of being human that needs to be explored.

This is where yoga can play an important role. The word “yoga” is usually misunderstood as contortionist contortionists. But yoga is not a practice, exercise, or technique. It is a process and a system for the holistic advancement of the human being, so that the individual human can find his highest possible potential in himself.
