BJP names Bhupendra Patel as new chief minister of Gujarat


The BJP first named MLA Bhupendra Patel as Gujarat’s next prime minister on Sunday, the day after Vijay Rupani stepped down from office.

The announcement of his name and his unanimous election was finalized earlier in the day at a Legislative Party meeting at the Kamalam State Party’s headquarters. Bhupendra Patel’s name was reportedly suggested by Vijay Rupani himself.

Bhupendra Patel won the 2017 Gujarat Legislative Assembly elections in the Ghatlodia constituency, defeating Congressional candidate Shashikant Patel.

He previously served as a councilor in Ahmedabad. He was chairman of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) and chaired the standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.

Patel is a trained engineer. He belongs to the Patidar community.

Union Interior Minister Amit Shah congratulated Bhupendra Patel on his appointment as Prime Minister of Gujarat and said he would give new energy and dynamism to the development of the state.

“Congratulations and best wishes to Bhupendra Patel on being elected Chairman of the BJP Legislative Body. I am confident that Gujarat’s development journey, led by Narendra Modi and your leadership, will gain renewed energy and dynamism and the state will go on. “To be a leader in good governance and public welfare,” Shah tweeted.

Vijay Rupani described Bhupendra Patel as a “capable” leader. “Bhupendra Patel is capable. We believe the BJP, under his leadership, will win the upcoming state elections,” he said.

WHO WERE THE CM APPLICANTS?

In his appointment as the next CM of Gujarat, Bhupendra Patel pushed aside stiff competition from Deputy Prime Minister Nitin Patel, former Minister Gordhan Zadafia and Praful K Patel, Administrator of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Lakshadweep.

Alongside them, the head of Gujarat BJP, CR Paatil, and the Union’s health minister, Mansukh Mandaviya, are also said to be in the fight. In fact, Bhupendra Patel was the first MLA to be nowhere in the running for Prime Minister of Gujarat.

WHY RUPANI IS RESIGNING

Surprisingly for many, Vijay Rupani resigned as Prime Minister of Gujarat on Saturday.

Vijay Rupani’s resignation is believed to have come after a meeting with senior BJP leaders where the decision was made to remove him.

According to sources, the reason given for the removal of Rupani as CM is a strong anti-trunk factor. A poll was carried out by the RSS. carried out this showed that it would be difficult for the BJP to win the next election in Gujarat with Vijay Rupani as the face of their campaign.

The situation is similar with the power shift in Gujarat in 2016, when the BJP replaced Anandiben Patel as prime minister a year before the parliamentary elections were due.
