Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as Prime Minister of Punjab on Saturday after months of fighting between him and the chief of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), Navjot Singh Sidhu.

A statement from the Raj Bhawan confirmed that the Governor of Punjab, Banwarilal Purohit, has accepted the resignation of Amarinder Singh and his Council of Ministers. Captain Amarinder Singh, 79, and his ministers have been asked to remain in office for routine business until his successor is appointed.
