Chandan Mitra, a former MP for Rajya Sabha and senior journalist, died in Delhi on Wednesday evening.

Former Rajya Sabha MP and senior journalist Chandan Mitra died in Delhi on Wednesday evening, his son Kushan Mitra said.
“Dad died late last night. He’s been suffering for a while,” Kushan Mitra tweeted Thursday morning. Mitra leaves behind his wife and two sons.
Chandan Mitra was a nominee member of the Rajya Sabha from August 2003 to 2009. In June 2010 he was elected by the BJP of Madhya Pradesh in Rajya Sabha. His tenure ended in 2016. In 2018 he joined the Trinamool Congress.
Chandan Mitra, close to BJP veteran LK Advani, was the editor and executive director of The Pioneer.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Chandan Mitra will be remembered for his “intellect and insight”.
“Shri Chandan Mitra Ji will be remembered for his intellect and insights. He excelled in both media and politics. Tormented by his death. His condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti,” Prime Minister tweeted Modes.

Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta said he lost his closest friend and posted a photo from a school trip in 1972.
“I lost my closest friend this morning – the editor of Pioneer and former MP Chandan Mitra. We were together as students at La Martiniere and we went on to St. the Saffron Wave, “tweeted Swapan Dasgupta.
