BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) announced the results of the recent fifth sero survey.
The most significant finding is that Covid-19 antibodies were found in 86.64% of the residents. Significantly, the data do not show a large difference in seroprevalence in the slum population (87.02%) and the non-slum population (86.22%).
Likewise, the seroprevalence in women is 88.29%, while it is 85.07% in men.
The study covers all 24 districts of Mumbai. 20% of the samples were from healthcare workers with a seroprevalence of 87.14%.
Almost 65% of the study participants had received Covid-19 vaccines and 35% had not.
The seroprevalence in partially and fully vaccinated participants is 90.26%.
The sero prevalence among the non-vaccinated is 79.86%.
The BMC conducted the survey between August 12 and September 8, considering the possibility of the third wave of Covid.
Prior to this survey, the BMC conducted three sero-surveillance studies for Covid-19 and one for the pediatric population.
