UK High Commissioner for India Alex Ellis said there was no problem with Covishield vaccine recognition and the UK government was talking to the developers of the CoWin app about vaccination certificates.
On Wednesday, the UK government issued an updated international travel warning amid UK vaccine recognition guidelines to include AstraZeneca Covishield in eligible Covid-19 vaccine formulations, but to keep India off the 18 countries on an approved vaccination list.
UK High Commissioner for India Alex Ellis said the UK is clear “Covishield is not a problem” and that discussions are being held with the developers of the CoWin app about vaccination certificates.
“We are sure Covishield is not a problem. Britain is open to travel and we are already seeing many people traveling to the UK from India, be they tourists, business people or students, “he said.
Alex Ellis said, “We had detailed technical discussions with the developers of the CoWIN app and the NHS app about certification for both apps. They are happening at a rapid pace to ensure that both countries recognize each other’s vaccination certificates. “
“In the year ended June 2021, over 62,500 student visas were issued, an increase of nearly 30 percent over the previous year, India said.
On Wednesday, amid a dispute over the UK vaccine recognition policy, the UK government issued an updated international travel warning that includes: AstraZeneca Covishield among eligible Covid-19 vaccine formulations but kept India off the 18 countries on an approved vaccination schedule, requiring Indians to follow the rules for “unvaccinated” travelers.
Despite the inclusion of Covishield, Indian travelers are not exempt from quarantine rules under the UK’s new international travel norms, which will go into effect from October 4, with UK officials in New Delhi claiming the main problem is vaccine certification, not vaccine and that both India and the UK are in talks to resolve the matter amicably.
