New Zealand’s cancellation of its limited overs series in Pakistan has prompted the England and Wales Cricket Board to take action and assess the security situation before traveling the country next month.
England said it would assess the soil situation in Pakistan to decide on their tour over the next 24-48 hours. England, meanwhile, is slated to travel to Rawalpindi for two Twenty20 Internationals in October, their first visit to Pakistan since 2005.
“We are aware of New Zealand’s decision to withdraw the Pakistan tour due to a security warning. We are in contact with our security team that is in Pakistan to fully understand the situation,” said the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB ) in a statement.
“The ECB Executive Board will then decide in the next 24-48 hours whether our planned tour should continue,” it said.
New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said it had received a security warning from its government and made the decision to cancel the tour shortly before the scheduled start of the one-day international series. You should play 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is against Pakistan in Rawalpindi and Lahore from September 17th to October 3rd.
The cancellation of the New Zealand tour is a major blow to the revival of international cricket in Pakistan.
Although some international cricket and Pakistan Super League (PSL) games have been played in the country, the major test nations have yet to travel to Pakistan for full-fledged tours.
West Indies are slated to travel to Pakistan later this year. Australia will also tour Pakistan early next year. (With PTI inputs)
