Opening batsman Shubman Gill said Kolkata Knight Riders made a “bold statement” with their impressive 9-wicket win over the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 31st Indian Premier League (IPL) game in 2021 on Monday evening.
The two-time champion beat Virat Kohlis RCB for 92 and then shot the target down in just 10 overs to score 2 crucial points and jump two places to fifth on the points table.
Gill and debutant Venkatesh Iyer added 82 runs for the inaugural partnership, putting an end to any chance for an RCB comeback after being eliminated for their sixth lowest score in the IPL.
“We were determined to make a comeback and we did well in all departments. I hope we can move forward and qualify for the playoffs. It was a bold statement. It was a plan to get the net run rate in “Said Gill after top scoring in the 48-run game.
