Maharashtra’s housing minister and NCP boss Jitendra Awhad sparked controversy with a video on Twitter. On Friday, he tweeted a video of a huge crowd and a rally of motorbikes welcoming him to Thanes Bhiwandi. But the video didn’t go down well with social media users as they questioned the huge gathering amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

In the video, many people were seen near Jitendra Awhad’s convoy to greet him. The minister’s convoy was followed by a huge motorcycle rally.

In response to the video, Twitter users asked if a crowd was allowed at political events, why general citizens were prevented from visiting temples and celebrating festivals.

One person commented: “The Covid crisis is not over in the state yet. Therefore, there are still some restrictions imposed by the state government. On the other hand, the government is also warning of strict restrictions if the number of corona patients increases. But the ministers are violating the Covid norms. “

At a time when the government is constantly calling for people to avoid gatherings and to adhere to Covid-appropriate behavior, a minister’s open violation of all protocols has raised questions.

The Mumbai unit of the Aam Admi party criticized Jitendra Awhad and asked if the rules for citizens and politicians were different.

AAP Mumbai said: “The waste incineration ministers keep talking about a third wave and citizens are afraid of another lockdown, but the ministers themselves are not obeying the rules. Restrictions are ignored and a huge crowd is seen at rallies and gatherings. Do ministers, politicians and citizens have different rules? “
