MG Astor SUV: First look of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos rival

The mid-size SUV segment is constantly growing with new products that hit the market quickly. This year alone we saw two new SUVs, the Skoda Kushaq and the Volkswagen Taigun, which will soon be on the market. But today we meet the next new contender to compete with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos, the all-new MG Astor. As the fourth and most affordable MG offer for the Indian market, the MG Astor will be placed below the MG Hector in the company’s portfolio. While MG Motor India has confirmed that they will only offer petrol engines with the Astor, we also have details on the design, tech, equipment, booking price and more on the latest SUV on the market.

1. The characteristic “Celestial” radiator grille gives the dashboard a dynamic look. 2. The Astor wears 17-inch, dual-tone alloy wheels. 3. The LED headlights with LED daytime running lights look threatening. 4. The LED touch is also continued on the rear lights. (Photo credit: Pratik Rakshit)

Exterior design of the MG Astor SUV:

In terms of styling, the MG Astor is largely similar to its fully electric counterpart, the ZS EV. However, the Astor carries styling elements of the internationally available ZS facelift, on which it is also based. This means that the Astor gets a new front section with a hexagonal “Celestial” grill, revised front bumper, new fog lamp housing and new headlights with LED daytime running lights (DRLs). There’s not much going on in profile as the only difference here is 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, chrome door handles, and black side panels. The rest of its profile is similar to its electrical counterpart. At the rear, the new Astor is given an idiosyncratic design for the LED rear lights, which continue the bold appearance from the front. Black bumpers with dummy double exhaust and dummy underride protection are also new to the Astor. Now the looks are subjectively agreed, but the Astor definitely plays the nice part, considering the competitors in this segment are some of the best looking vehicles on the market.

1. The top-spec Astor gets a two-tone sangria red color scheme for the cabin. 2. The new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system controls every action of the car. 3. The new AI-based voice assistant sits on the dashboard and can follow voice commands, answer questions and also make a range of facial expressions. 4. The circular air vents add depth. Interior design of the MG Astor SUV:

Now the interior of the Astor is interesting simply because it’s the most technologically advanced room in its segment. The centerpiece is a new 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system that controls every action of the car and is also compatible with Android Auto / Apple CarPlay. But the other interesting addition here is a new AI-based voice assistant unit that sits on the dash. This little device can follow voice commands, answer questions, and also do a range of facial expressions.

1. The seats are well padded. 2. The rear passengers have AC ports and two USB charging ports. 3. The Astor should get the largest trunk in the segment. 4. A panoramic sliding roof is available that covers 90 percent of the cabin. (Photo credit: Pratik Rakshit)

Features of the MG Astor SUV:

In addition, the top model will be equipped with a panoramic sunroof, heated ORVMs, digital key, automatic climate control, rain-sensitive windscreen wipers, 7.0-inch digital instrument, 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat and leather covers for the seats, door cards and dashboard. In addition, three interior color schemes are offered, including a two-tone sangria red, a two-tone Iconic Ivory, and a tuxedo black.

Safety features of the MG Astor SUV:

The MG Astor is also the most technologically advanced car in its segment thanks to its Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) functions, which include several active safety functions. We saw this with the MG Gloster as well and will soon be trying it out in real-world environments for accurate feedback. Some of the ADAS functions of the Astor include adaptive cruise control, collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, lane departure warning and cruise control.

Liter turbo gasoline engine with 138 hp and 220 Nm maximum torque.
