The center told the Delhi High Court that the Nizamuddin Markaz case and the controversy surrounding the alleged Covid norms violations in early 2020 will have cross-border implications.
The Tablighi Jamaat Congregation, held in March last year ahead of the first days of the Covid-induced lockdown, sparked massive controversy after hundreds of supporters from various states and foreign nations gathered in the Markaz building.
In connection with the Tablighi Jamaat event in the Markaz during the lockdown last year, several FIRs were registered under the Disease Act, the Disaster Protection Act, the Aliens Act and various provisions of the Criminal Code.
The Union government informed the Supreme Court on Monday that the case had “cross-border implications” and that Nizamuddin Markaz’s premises could not be locked forever, the PTI news agency reported.
Judge Mukta Gupta, who heard the Delhi Waqf Board’s request, which has been in operation since Dec.
The judge said, “Some people owned the property. Due to the pandemic, an FIR has been registered that you are taking possession of as trap ownership. It has to be handed over. It cannot be that the property will be kept forever. How do you feel about the facts of the case? You tell me who you took it from. How long are you going to keep it locked as a trap property? “
The Delhi Supreme Court published a notice in response to a plea submitted by a member of the markaz board of directors and allowed the Waqf board to submit its response to the centre’s affidavit. The case was released for the next hearing on November 16.
The attorney for the Waqf board of directors argued that the petition had been pending for more than a year and made it clear that his petition related to the clearance of the entire Markaz property, consisting of the mosque, the madrasah and the residential area.
