PM Modi chairs high-level meeting over Covid situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting on Friday to review the Covid-19 situation in the country.

Sources said PM Modi also checked the Covid-19 vaccination campaign in the country during the meeting, PTI news agency reported.

The meeting comes a day after Union Health Minister Rajesh Bhushan said the second wave of coronavirus in India was not over.

The health minister had said that 35 districts were still reporting a weekly Covid positivity rate of over 10 percent, while in 30 districts it was between five and 10 percent.

Regarding vaccination, the Union government said Thursday that more than half of India’s adult population has received at least one dose of Covid-19 vaccine, while 18 percent have received both vaccinations. The total number of vaccinations given in the country exceeded 72 crore.

Is there a possibility of a third wave of Covid-19 in India?

Last month, a central government-appointed panel added in its latest report warned that a third wave of Covid-19 could peak around October. The public health system should be better prepared for children who may be at similar risk as adults.

A report from a panel of experts from the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), set up by the Union Home Office, said: “Pediatrics [control] Facilities such as doctors, staff, equipment such as ventilators, ambulances, etc. are nowhere near what is required in the event that large numbers of children become infected. “

According to the report, there is no direct evidence that children in India will be more severely affected in the expected third wave. However, the report suggests that children remain a cause for concern as they are still not vaccinated.

Experts are warning of a third wave of Covid if the situation is not kept under control during the Christmas season.

A one-day fall could easily be knocked over in cases, especially if we lower our vigilance. Like March 8, when Covid cases dropped from around 18,000 to 15,000 a day, only to shoot up to 40,000 a day a week later, marking the start of the second wave.

Professor Gagandeep Kang told India Today that if the situation doesn’t change much, that will Third wave of Covid-19 infections becomes a “hill if the second wave were a steep mountain”

She also said that the third wave of Covid-19 infections cannot be predicted. No one can predict whether the virus will continue to mutate and become more dangerous, said Professor Kang.

Meanwhile, seasonal flu swept parts of northern India, causing confusion over a possible third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
