When asked about the lack of unanimity in the opposition over the nomination of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as candidate for prime minister, Sharad Pawar said that some leaders in Congress are treating their leadership sensitively.
PAWAR’S ZAMINDAR HIBE AT THE CONGRESS
“I had told a story about UP zamindars that used to have huge plots of land and large havelis. Under the Land Ceiling Act, their land shrank to 15-20 acres. They didn’t even have the power to maintain their havelis. Every morning, them stood up, looked at the country and said that this was all ours. The mentality (of the Congress) is similar. The reality has to be accepted, “said Pawar.
“CONGRESS THE ONLY NATIONAL RELEVANT PARTY”
Sharad Pawar also added, however, that Congress with a pan-Indian presence was still the only nationally relevant party in the country that could offer an alternative to the BJP.
“Congress was stronger (in the past) than it is today, when it has 40-45 MPs. At that time they had a strength of around 140. That only says the number of the Congress. But it is the only party that is relevant in the country. It has governments in 5-7 states. The only party that has a national presence against the BJP is Congress, ”said Pawar.

“But we’re used to seeing the old Congress. Today’s Congress is nowhere near that. That’s because Congress has grown weak; many of her own people have left her. If you want to create an option today by bringing everyone together, the question is, what for? I will not say to regain power, but to promote stability and the agreed development program, which Congress cannot do today, “he said.
“I DO NOT NEED A PRASHANT KISHOR”
Sharad Pawar also made his point of view clear about the latest series of Meeting between him and the political strategist Prashant Kishor, who downplay the speculation. “I don’t need any help from Prashant Kishor. Besides, I have no ambitions for a post today. But yes, I want to try to bring the opposition together,” he said.
Sharad Pawar’s conversation with Rajdeep Sardesai and Sahil Joshi can be seen on the Mumbai Tak YouTube channel from 11 a.m. on Saturday.
