In an interview with India Today Group’s Marathi Web Channel Mumbai Tak, the head of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Sharad Pawar, spoke about how the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government was formed in Maharashtra.

ABOUT BJP-SENA BITTERNESS

There are two things in it. One of them is how this government was formed. The situation is different with the tripartite government of Uddhav. Shiv Sena and BJP were together. What was your understanding? What were your obligations? It happened between the two of them; everything they know. But after Vidhan Sabha’s election results, they began to feel that something was unfair. We stayed silent, but we kept an eye on the situation. As the days went on, forming a government became difficult, and we found that her bitterness had only grown. With so much bitterness, the government couldn’t have run.

ON UDDHAV THACKERAY

I saw Uddhav Thackeray from his childhood as we had very close relationships with his father Balasaheb Thackeray. We could see Uddhav proceeding slowly on the path shown by Balasaheb Thackeray. Balasaheb had put Uddhav in charge of Sena, but many people wondered what would happen to the party after Balasaheb. But when Sena came back to power in the BMC election, everyone saw that Sena was only getting stronger. People felt that if Uddhav were given responsibility, he could handle it properly. After that, all doubts were dispelled. He might speak softly, but people could see his abilities. As the differences between Sena and BJP grew, many in our party felt that we should start a dialogue with Shiv Sena. We discussed it and at the same time Sanjay Raut got in touch.

“I spoke to SONIA GANDHI”

This was after the elections when the formation of the government did not take place. When we realized that a Shiv Sena-BJP government was not going to be formed, this separate channel was opened for dialogue. When we started the discussion, we felt that a government could be formed from Congress, NCP, and Shiv Sena. Some people in Congress were also open to the idea of forming a government, as they did not want the BJP to come to power. However, they doubted whether Congress chief Sonia Gandhi would be willing to accept this idea. However, they put this proposal before Gandhi. Then I spoke to her myself and said that it is necessary to ensure that the BJP does not come to power and that the three parties have to come together. She then discussed this with her own party members.

“RAHUL NEVER COMES INTO THE DISCUSSION”

Rahul Gandhi never got into this discussion about forming a government with Shiv Sena. Sonia Gandhi held a meeting, and after receiving a positive response from everyone on the party, she immediately gave the tripartite government’s proposal the green flag.
