Anand Giri was arrested Tuesday in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, after his name was mentioned in a suicide note reportedly left by his mentor. Mahant Narendra Giri.

In the suicide note, Narendra Giri wrote that he feared Anand Giri would spread a changed image of himself with a woman in order to defame the seer.

While his police interrogation which lasted nearly 12 hours, Anand Giri claimed that Mahant Narendra Giri was not the kind of person who could die by suicide and that this was a “conspiracy” against him and his mentor.

Anand Giri has been booked under Section 306 (assisted suicide) of the Indian Criminal Code (IPC) and was sent to a 14-day prison sentence by the Prayagraj District Court on Wednesday.
