SpaceX first all-civilian astronauts leave Earth: Here’s what they will do in Space for three days

SpaceX ushered in a new era in space travel when it sent four amateur astronauts into space in its Falcon 9 rocket on a three-day trip around the earth, making the limit of space accessible to ordinary people. Although the trip was funded by another billionaire, it has three other normal crew members who come from the same life as us.

The Falcon 9 rocket’s Merlin engine blew up in the early hours of the morning dated Thursday, which gives the massive rocket enough thrust to take off from the historic launch pad where Neil Armstrong once took off to the moon. When the Crew Dragon capsule crossed the boundary of space, the reusable booster returned to Earth seven minutes after the flight.

The crew will orbit the earth for three days at an altitude of over 500 kilometers above the earth, higher than the Hubble space telescope. SpaceX has developed an automated Dragon capsule that is flown from the mission controls, with the astronauts participating in several other activities, including research in space. The capsule will spray off the coast of Florida.

What’s next for the Inspiration 4 crew in space?

When the crew reaches the adjusted altitude, which is well above what Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos have achieved, they will participate in several research activities aimed at increasing human knowledge of long-term space flights. According to SpaceX, the crew of four will participate in the first health research initiative of its kind to expand knowledge of the effects of space travel on the human body. In orbit, the crew will conduct carefully selected human health and performance research experiments that will have potential human health applications on Earth and in future space flights.

SpaceX works with the Translational Research Institute for Space Health (TRISH) and Weill Cornell Medicine are collecting environmental and biomedical data as well as biological samples from the four crew members of Inspiration4 before, during and after this historic space flight.

The Inspiration 4 crew will conduct the following research in space

  • Capture research-quality EKG activity, movement, sleep, heart rate and rhythm, blood oxygen saturation, cabin noise and light intensity
  • Run a series of tests in the Cognition app to assess changes in behavioral and cognitive performance
  • Scan organ systems with a Butterfly IQ + ultrasound machine designed with artificial intelligence for non-medical experts.
  • Collect and test drops of blood during space flight for markers of immune function and inflammation using a state-of-the-art miniaturized device called a Vertical Flow Immunoassay (VFI).
  • Use pre-flight and immediately post-flight balance and awareness tests to measure sensorimotor adaptation to changes in gravity. These tests are currently being carried out by astronauts after returning from space travel

The crew intends to raise a $ 200 million fundraiser for St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. While Jared Isaacman, the billionaire who commands the crew Donated $ 100 million, he plans to raise another $ 100 million through auctions.

A successful Inspiration-4 flight will add SpaceX to the club of companies providing space tourism facilities after Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic and Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin. However, the space tourism sector remains a club of billionaires, including Isaacman, who said, “This is the first step towards a world where ordinary people can venture under the stars.”
