Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Brahm Mohindra are likely to take an oath as deputy prime ministers of Punjab, sources said. The development comes a day after the Congress elected Charanjit Singh Channi as the next Prime Minister of Punjab.
Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Minister for Prisons and Cooperation in the outgoing cabinet, has been named the top candidate for the post of Prime Minister of Punjab.
Brahm Mohindra was the senior minister in the Punjab congressional government, responsible for local government, parliamentary affairs, elections and complaint resolution. He is believed to be close to former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh.
The new Prime Minister of Punjab will be sworn in at 11 a.m. today. Charanjit Singh Channi will replace Captain Amarinder Singh, who resigned Saturday after months of power struggles with the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Navjot Singh Sidhu, and his loyalists.
Charanjit Singh Channi becomes the state’s first Dalit Chief Minister. He is a three-time MLA from Chamkaur Sahib. The 58-year-old was Punjab’s Minister for Technical and Industrial Education, Employment, and Science and Technology.
