Afghan captain Rashid Khan has resigned as captain of the T20 team with immediate effect because he was not satisfied with the squad the board has announced for the upcoming World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
The Afghan cricket board had announced the national team for the World Cup just minutes before Rashid Khan’s sensational resignation. The selectors have named veterans Shapoor Zadran and wicketkeeper Mohammad Shahzad along with injury-prone fast bowler Hamid Hassan.
The T20 World Cup will be held in the UAE from October 17th to November 14th this year
“As the captain and in charge of the nation, I reserve the right to be involved in the selection of the team.
“The selection committee and the ACB (Afghanistan Cricket Board) did not seek my approval for the team as announced by the ACB media. I decide to resign from my role as captain of the Afghan T20 crew with immediate effect.
“It is always my pride to play for Afghanistan.” That is what Rashid Khan said in a statement on social media.
Rashid Khan is in the UK where he competed in The Hundred, he played for Trent Rockets in the tournament.

Rashid, the world’s best bowler in his twenties, was named Afghan captain for the T20 World Cup in July. His deputy Najibullah Zadran was added to the 18-man squad.
Afghanistan qualified directly for the Super 12 phase of the T20 World Cup and is in Group 2 alongside Pakistan, New Zealand and the two qualifiers.
