When farmers tried to force their way into the Secretariat’s office, police used water cannons against the demonstrators.
With tractors and motorcycles, the farmers reached New Anaj Mandi on Tuesday morning for a mahapanchayat. When they gathered there, an eleven-member delegation was invited by the local administration to discuss their demands and to prevent them from marching towards the secretariat.
“Our talks with the administration failed because they did not agree to our demands,” said farm manager Joginder Singh Ugrahan about three hours later.

Farmers in Jind blocked the Jind Kaithal Chandigarh Highway in Naguran village. There was also a traffic jam on the Jind-Karnal Highway, Alewa village, where farmers were sitting on the road.

Leaders of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha joined the Kisan Mahapanchayat in Karnal, where over two lakh farmers gathered in the Karnal grain market. Section 144 has been imposed in the region and internet and SMS services have been discontinued.
The protests would continue as planned, however, as the government’s attempt to forestall the movement had failed, SKM leaders said.
