UP govt recommends CBI probe into Akhara Parishad head Mahant Narendra Giri’s death

A CBI investigation into Mahant Naredra Giri’s death has been ordered. The investigation was recommended by the Prime Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.

The Uttar Pradesh government has recommended a CBI investigation into the death of Akhara Parishad’s chief Mahant Narendra Giri. The investigation was recommended by the Prime Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath.

Mahant Narendra Giri, president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, was found dead on Monday evening in his room at Baghambari Math in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj.

The 72-year-old went to his room after lunch but did not respond when later that evening students knocked on the door or called him repeatedly on his cell phone.

When his disciples broke open the door and entered the room, they found the seer hanging from the ceiling with a nylon rope. The UP police regard it as a prima facie case of suicide.

Prayagraj Police Inspector General (IG) KP Singh told the media that the door of the room was locked from the inside. He also said that a handwritten suicide note was found in the room where Mahant Narendra Giri wrote his will and the names of a number of people who allegedly had troubled him.

“I lived with dignity, I will not be able to live with insults, so I will take my own life,” says the farewell letter according to IG KP Singh. In the 7-8 page letter, the seer also wrote that he was upset for a number of reasons and therefore decided to end his life.

Mahant Narendra Giri also wrote a will in his suicide note about what to do with mathematics after his death.
