HIGHLIGHTS
- India (191 & 466) beat England (290 & 210) with 157 runs and took the unbeatable 2-1 lead
- This is the first time since 1986 that India has managed to win 2 Tests in a row in England
- This is also the first time India has managed to win a Test at Lord’s and The Oval in the same series
Virat Kohli’s test record as captain continues to rise as the 32-year-old put another feather on his cap after his team’s 157-time win against England on Monday. India beat England on Day 5 of the fourth Test to take a 2-1 lead in the five-game series at The Oval.
England set a record of 368 to win and tumbled from 100 without a loss in the middle of the first session to 210 40 minutes after tea, sparking wild celebrations among India’s players – especially Kohli – and fans in south London.
In the most recent triumph, Kohli was only the second captain of India after Kapil Dev, who recorded two test wins in a series in England. The Indian team of Kapil Dev had accomplished the feat in the 2-0 series victory in England in 1986.
OVAL TEST DAY 5: Highlights | report
The 1986 series win was India’s second in England after 1971, which was also the year they recorded their first test win at The Oval. 50 years and 13 days later, Kohlis India repeated the story in the famous stadium in London.
“Difficult situations build strong people. On the next,” Kohli said in a tweet after the win.

This is also the first time India has managed to win a Test at Lord’s and The Oval in the same series, something only 5 teams (Australia, West Indies, Pakistan, New Zealand and South Africa) have done in the past.
India also kept their record of winning every friendly match intact while defending over 350 in total and expanding their record to 35-0.
Avoiding a loss in the final test or even a win at Old Trafford on Friday would mean that India would only win a test series in England for the fourth time after 1971, 1986 and 2007.
