The untimely death of Mahant Narendra Giri of the Niranjani Akhara has led to widespread speculation about his successor as president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad.
Traditionally, for the office of President the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad. Under normal circumstances, these elections take place unanimously, as Akharas discuss candidates among themselves before voting.
Mahant Narendra Giri took office for the first time in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019.

However, controversy has again and again overshadowed the elections for President of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad. Some matters related to these elections have even resulted in legal proceedings in the past.
During the election of Mahant Narendra Giri, his rival Gyan Das had also made several allegations against the boss of the Baghambari Math.

After the death of Mahant Narendra Giri, Mahant Hari Giri is one of the front runners for the top post. Mahant Hari Giri is currently the international secretary of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad.
Those familiar with the religious body say that Mahant Hari Giri is considered to be the most influential among the 13 Akharas after Mahant Narendra Giri.

Those familiar with the electoral process told India Today that Hari Giri’s direction will be the most important as he is the panel’s international secretary at this point.
Mahamandaleshwar Avdheshanand Giri
Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of Juna Akhara, Avdheshanand Giri is also one of the top performers.
Because of his popularity among the seers, Avdheshanand Giri is considered a viable candidate. Also in his favor is the fact that, since Mahant Narendra Giri was part of Niranjani Akhara, his successor is likely to be associated with another Akhara.

The name Mahant Rajendradas from the Nirmohi Akhara is also making the rounds.

“Akharas are centers of power. You just have to look at the kumbh, it is the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, not the authorities that decide which Akhara will be elected first for Shahi Snan,” said one observer.
