Who will succeed Mahant Narendra Giri as president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad?


The untimely death of Mahant Narendra Giri of the Niranjani Akhara has led to widespread speculation about his successor as president of the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad.

Traditionally, for the office of President the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad. Under normal circumstances, these elections take place unanimously, as Akharas discuss candidates among themselves before voting.

Mahant Narendra Giri took office for the first time in 2016 and was re-elected in 2019.

Mahamandaleshwar Avdheshanand Giri

Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of Juna Akhara, Avdheshanand Giri is also one of the top performers.

Because of his popularity among the seers, Avdheshanand Giri is considered a viable candidate. Also in his favor is the fact that, since Mahant Narendra Giri was part of Niranjani Akhara, his successor is likely to be associated with another Akhara.

“Akharas are centers of power. You just have to look at the kumbh, it is the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, not the authorities that decide which Akhara will be elected first for Shahi Snan,” said one observer.
