Ahead of UP polls, PM Modi takes Purvanchal’s pulse with 6 public meetings

As the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections approached, the BJP is in electoral mode, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the political campaign with a special focus on Purvanchal.

With PM Modi speaking at six public gatherings in Purvanchal, the Saffron Party is leaving no stone unturned to improve its electoral prospects and attract voters in the vital region before the election dates for the gathering are announced.

The prime minister began cultivating Purvanchal when he visited Varanasi, his constituency, on July 15. Subsequently, on September 14th, during his visit to Aligarh, he laid the foundation stone for the Raja Mahendra Pratap University.

PM Modi also participated in the Urban Conclave program organized in Lucknow on October 5th. He then reached Kushinagar on October 20th, where the people of Purvanchal was given an international airport as well as development projects valued at Rs 478.74 crore.

In all of this, Prime Minister Modi also appealed to make Mission-2022 a success by listing the accomplishments of the central and state government. In the coming days the Prime Minister would also open the Gorakhpur Fertilizer Factory and Gorakhpur AIIMS. Likewise, the Purvanchal expressway and the Gorakhpur connecting expressway are on the list of new inaugurations until mid-December.

For the second time in five days, PM Modi addressed the people of Purvanchal Opening of nine medical colleges across UP by Siddharthnagar on Monday. The medical colleges are located in the districts of Siddharthnagar, Deoria, Etah, Fatehpur, Hardoi, Ghazipur, Mirzapur, Pratapgarh, Jaunpur and are being built for Rs 2,234 crore.

After Siddharthnagar, Prime Minister Modi reached Varanasi, where he started Pradhan Mantri Atmanirbhar Swasth Bharat Yojana, a national health infrastructure program worth 64.180 billion rupees over five years. During the 2017 UP Congregation polls, the BJP performed strongly in Purvanchal, occupying 115 of the 164 congregation seats. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party got 17, BSP 14, Congress 2 and others 16 seats. The Saffron Party is targeting the Purvanchal Belt to keep its victorious status while forming an alliance with smaller parties.

Even before the voting signal had sounded, the BJP took its most trusted partner in Purvanchal, Apna Dal, in its trust and appointed Anupriya Patel as cabinet minister earlier this year.

However, due to the recent political stance of Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj’s party leader Om Prakash Rajbhar, a new challenge has arisen. Political scientist Ratan Mani Lal said there was a significant number of Rajbhar votes in many seats in the Eastern UP. However, the BJP leaders have claimed that going anywhere has no effect on Om Prakash Rajbhar.

Rajbhar has reportedly forged a new alliance with the Samajwadi Party for the 2022 UP election. The new alliance is expected to be announced during a rally in Mau on October 27th in the presence of SP leader Akhilesh Yadav.

Purvanchal is not only focused on the BJP, but also on opposition parties; In the past few weeks Akhilesh Yadav, Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, Sanjay Nishad from the Nishad Party and others have headed straight for the Eastern Belt. No wonder then that the ruling party is rolling out the Modi juggernaut in order to maintain its influence there.
