The student body at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi apologized on Sunday after video clips of a Ramlila sketch performed by some students at the institute generated widespread criticism on social media for alleged violations of religious sentiment.
The sketch was reportedly performed by some freshman MBBS students near the dorm square on the AIIMS campus on the occasion of Dusshera. Video clips of the skit went viral on social media, with many users calling for action against students for “disrespecting” religious figures.
“A video clip of a Ramlila sketch made by some AIIMS students is circulating on social media. On behalf of the students, we apologize for doing this sketch, which should not hurt the feelings of others. Activities are taking place in the future”, said the AIIMS Student Association in a tweet.

According to the PTI, the AIIMS administration also had a discussion with the students on this topic. “The students, who realized the sensitivity of the problem, apologized in a tweet. They gave assurances that such an incident will not happen again,” an official told PTI.
The official said the sketch was not part of any official activity or event and that the students organized it themselves.
