After Bangladeshi police arrested Ikbal Hossain from Cox’s Bazar late Thursday evening after identifying him through CCTV footage from surveillance cameras installed outside the pandal in Comilla.

Ikbal Hossain, who was accused of placing a copy of the Quran at a Durga puja pandal in Comilla last week, was arrested from Cox’s Bazar by police in Bangladesh on Thursday evening.
Before that The police had identified the 35-year-old man whose action sparked communal violence in Bangladesh, by analyzing CCTV recordings from surveillance cameras installed outside the pandal in Comilla.
The video allegedly showed him walking in suspiciously with a Koran and then walking out with the Gada, possibly of the Hanuman idol, at the Pandal, where the Koran was discovered.
At least Three people were killed in the violence that followed after a copy of the Quran was found last week at Nanua Dighir Par Durga Puja Pandal in Comilla. The incident sparked widespread violence as community tensions gripped Bangladesh.

Aside from Comilla, incidents of violence have also been reported from temples in Chandpurs Hajiganj, Chattograms Banshkhali, Cox’s Bazars Pekua and Rangpurs Pirganj.
The Comilla police have filed four cases and made 41 arrests related to the violence at a Durga puja pandal. Four of those arrested are said to be employees of Ikbal Hossain.
Meanwhile, Ikbal’s mother, Amena Begum, had told the Bangladesh-based Dhaka Tribune that he had been a drug addict and had faced mental health problems since he was stabbed in the stomach by neighbors about 10 years ago.
