HIMACHAL PRADESH

In Himachal Pradesh, the seat of Mandi Lok Sabha, from which Pratibha Singh will take office, had a voter turnout of 57.73 percent. She competed against BJP’s Khushal Singh Thakur, a war hero from Kargil who is trying his luck with the Hustings for the first time.

Mandi’s seat became vacant following the death of Ramswaroop Sharma (BJP) in March.

The first voter of independent India, 104-year-old Shyam Saran Negi has cast his vote at the Kalpa sample polling station in the Kinnaur district.

Even the highest polling station in the world at 15,256 feet in the village of Tashigang recorded a 100 percent turnout despite a sub-zero temperature of minus 16 degrees Celsius. All 47 registered voters – 29 men and 18 women – cast their votes, an election official said.

HARYANA

In Haryana, 80 percent of the vote was received in the constituency by-election of the Ellenabad Assembly, required by the resignation of India’s National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Chautala as MLA in protest of the centre’s new farm laws.

Chautala, son of INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala, is competing against congressional candidate Pawan Beniwal and BJP-JP candidate Gobind Kanda, brother of party leader and lawmaker Gopal Kanda of Haryana Lokhit.

It’s an important competition for the Chautalas as Abhay Chautala won Ellenabad’s polls in 2010 when Om Prakash Chautala vacated the seat and then kept it in 2014 and also in the 2019 assembly elections when he was the only INLD MLA in the house .

DADRA AND NAGAR HAVELI

The constituency of Dadra and Nagar Haveli Lok Sabha recorded a voter turnout of 75.51 percent after the end of the vote at 7 p.m., officials from the electoral commission said.

The by-election in the constituency, which belongs to the union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, was canceled by the death of the seven-time independent MP Mohan Delkar, his wife Kalaben Delkar as a Shiv Sena candidate against Mahesh Gavit of the BJP and Mahesh Dhodi by Congress.

TELANGANA

A voter turnout of over 86 percent was recorded in the Huzurabad constituency in Telangana, with the ruling TRS, the opposition BJP and Congress involved in a triangular competition.

The by-election is seen as a battle for death for Rajender, while it is significant for the BJP as it aims to appear as an alternative to the ruling TRS in the 2023 legislative assembly elections.

ASSAM

In Assam, 69.60 percent of the votes in five constituencies of Gossaigaon, Bhabanipur, Tamulpur, Mariani and Thowra were reported by 5 p.m.

Scuffle between TMC and BJP supporters was reported outside a stand in Khardah, and security guards used batons to disperse the crowd.

Kajal Sinha’s death due to Covid-19 made the survey in Khardah necessary.

According to TMC members, Sinha’s son Arjodeep was injured in hand-to-hand combat and had to be hospitalized.

In Dinhata, TMC heavyweight Udayan Guha wants to recapture the seat that the BJP snatched from him in the April elections.

The by-election became necessary after the resignation of Nisith Pramanik, who is now the Union’s interior minister, as he decided to keep his Lok Sabha membership.

In Santipur, BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar resigned from the assembly, calling for a vote.

Bypolls in Dinhata and Santipur are seen as a battle of prestige for the BJP, which is currently grappling with an exodus of MLAs and senior executives.

RAJASTHAN

An average turnout of 70 percent was recorded in the votes in the Dhariawad and Vallabhnagar constituencies of Rajasthan.

The votes were required due to the demise of the MLA Congress by Vallabhnagar Gajendra Singh Shaktawat and the BJP legislature by Dhariawad Gautam Lal Meena.

In Vallabhnagar, the ruling Congress Party handed Gajendra Shaktawat’s wife Preeti Shaktawat a ticket, while the BJP used Himmat Singh Jhala.

The congress set up Nagraj Meena in Dhariawad against the BJP candidate Khet Singh Meena.

While the number of constituencies to vote is not critical from a government stability perspective, the results will send a message across the state about the performance of the Congressional-led government that faced great threats over the past year due to the rebellion was the then Deputy Prime Minister Sachin pilot and 18 MLAs led by him.

KARNATAKA

A voter turnout of approximately 69 percent was recorded in the Sindgi constituency and 84 percent in the Hangal assembly segment.

Congress has named MC Managuli’s son Ashok Managuli, who has joined the party, as its candidate from Sindgi, while former MLC Srinivas Mane is its candidate from Hangal.

The JD (S), which was the first to announce its candidates, nominated 33-year-old Naziya Shakeel Ahmed Angadi from Sindgi and 35-year-old BE, M.Tech graduate Niyaz Shaikh from Hangal.
