Lakhan Verma and Rahul Verma were first arrested by the SIT (Special Investigation Team) formed by the Jharkhand government to investigate Anand’s murder. The CBI took the two defendants into custody when it took over the investigation in August this year.

the CBI subjugated the duo on narco analysis and brain mapping at the Central Forensic Sciences Laboratory (CFSL) in Gandhinagar.

The CBI had previously told a court that the Dhanbad district judge was deliberately hit by an auto rickshaw on a morning walk on July 28 this year. Judge Uttam Anand’s family claimed he was killed while working on sensitive cases involving the local mafia.

CBI sources told India Today that forensic evidence in the case suggests Judge Uttam Anand was deliberately hit by the autorickshaw. He later succumbed to his injuries.

During his investigation, CBI analyzed CCTV recordings of the incident, reconstructed the crime scene and brought in four separate forensic teams from Gandhinagar, Mumbai and Delhi.

Sources say all of the evidence so far suggests Judge Uttam Anand was murdered and his death was portrayed as an accident.

Recently, the CBI also filed two separate cases related to the theft of three cell phones from a Dhanbad resident and the theft of an auto rickshaw from a nearby location just a day before Uttam Anand was killed.

Investigators suspect that the stolen cell phones and the auto rickshaw were used in the murder.
