Goa Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar said Tuesday the state wanted the “richest tourists” and not drug addicts and those who “cook food on the buses”.
When asked about the revival of the tourism industry in Goa after the pandemic, he said, “We don’t want tourists who use drugs and spoil Goa. We don’t want tourists who come to Goa and cook food on a bus. We want the richest tourists. “
“We welcome all tourists, but they should enjoy themselves while respecting Goa’s culture,” he added. The minister said the BJP-led government in Goa was “totally against drugs”.
The Goa General Assembly on January 31, 2019, the state tourism law changedthat prohibits cooking and drinking alcohol in public places. Open cooking and drinking on beaches and breaking glass bottles in public has resulted in a fine of 2,000 rupees.
Goa’s tourism industry is hoping for a revitalization after the Interior Ministry (MHA) announced earlier this month that new tourist visas for foreigners arriving on charter flights to India will begin on October 15.
