J&K administration signs MoU with Dubai govt to develop real estate, industrial parks


In a significant step towards the development of the industrial sector and other business enterprises in the Union territory, the governments of Jammu and Kashmir signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Dubai on Monday for the development of real estate, industrial parks and more.

Regarding the importance of the MoU, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal said that by signing the MoU with the Dubai government, the world has begun to see the pace at which Jammu and Kashmir are moving forward on the development train.

“This MoU is a strong signal to the whole world that Jammu and Kashmir also play an important role in India’s transformation into a world power,” said Piyush Goyal.

The foundations for the MoU were laid during the Minister’s visit to Dubai from October 1st to 3rd on the sidelines of the inauguration of the India Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020.

The MoU with the government of Dubai includes real estate development, industrial parks, IT towers, multi-purpose towers, logistics, medical college, super specialty hospital and more.

The central government hopes that the MoU will prove to be a milestone after which investment will flow from around the world and initiate a major development spurt.

Aside from making much-needed investments for J&K, the MoU also promises to help India give more support to the UAE, which has a strong presence in the community of Islamic nations, and counter Pakistan’s propaganda in Kashmir.

“Various business units from Dubai are said to have shown great interest in investing in the newly created UT. Development must be sought on all fronts and we are on the right track, ”added Piyush Goyal.

The MoU follows after the government announced the most recent one Industrial package from Rs 28,400 crore for the Union Territory.

Jammu and Kashmiri lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha ended it as a momentous event, saying that this agreement will help the union territory reach new heights in industrialization and sustainable growth.

PIYUSH GOYAL’S VISIT TO J&K

To underline that the Recent attacks on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir Were not deterred by the government’s development plans, Piyush Goyal used his visit to signal that the development of the UT remains a top priority.

The Union Minister inspected stands of various departments, including animal husbandry, county industry, ICDS, welfare, horticulture, sheep farming, hand weaving and handicrafts department.

He emphasized the promotion of products that can make up the export potential of the UT. He gave instructions to the district administration to provide all possible assistance to local entrepreneurs and craftsmen to increase productivity.

The Minister also distributed kits to newborn female infants under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao program. As part of the “Ladli Beti” program, the grants were distributed to the beneficiaries.

Piyush Goyal distributed letters of sanction to beneficiaries for buying milk carts. Tricycles were also distributed to disabled people through the social welfare office.

The minister instructed the district administration to develop host family tourism plans in Pahalgam that will both boost the local economy and increase Pahalgam’s tourist potential.

Goyal also met a delegation of industrialists from the valley who briefed the minister on the problems facing the industry and the bottlenecks in the export of Kashmiri scarves.

There was also discussion about the new industrial package and the need to extend the package to existing industrial units to ensure their growth.

Piyush Goyal took immediate action against bottlenecks in the export of scarves and instructed the authorities to set up testing facilities in Srinagar and Delhi Airport while upgrading the local testing facilities with state-of-the-art machines.

He also proposed the establishment of a carpet village to serve as a demonstration center of local handicrafts for tourists and also to promote the local carpet industry worldwide.
