When denied money for alcohol, some men allegedly dropped bombs on women and wrecked vehicles outside a temple site where Durga Puja was held in West Bengal’s Durgapur. The police claimed it was a “minor scuffle” of money.

The incident occurred in Durgapur’s Annapurna Nagar after Durga Idol went into hiding on Saturday night. Locals claim three men asked local youth for money for drinking alcohol.

After the youth refused to give them money, the three men, residents of a nearby location, returned to Annapurna Nagar after immersion and beat them outside of the Durga pandal, local residents said.

They claimed the attackers hurled bombs outside the Durga panda and destroyed tube lights, chairs and vehicles that were outside the panda.

“It’s just a small scuffle over a money matter. I haven’t heard about bombs,” said a police officer. The police have started an investigation and are conducting raids in search of the accused.

The injured were later taken to hospital. According to the police, no one was seriously injured.
