Timeline of Terror: 11 civilians, many of them non-locals, killed by terrorists in J&K this month


The situation in Jammu and Kashmir is tense as terrorists continue to brutally attack civilians. As a number of the victims were minority or non-native, the attacks have aroused fear among civilians.

Up to 11 murders in the last 14 days have had one Raid against terrorists from J&K police and the army.

Over 700 people were arrested for questioning in connection with the attacks last week.

The security forces have also launched several operations to eliminate terrorists, many of whom were eliminated on suspicion of their involvement in some attacks. Several soldiers were also killed during the operations.

There were two other local workers from Bihar on Sunday shot by terrorists in Kulgam when they opened fire on a rented shop where the victims were staying.

Civilians killed in terrorist attacks in J&K this month:

Mohammad Shafi Dar: Dar, one of the earliest murders of the month, was killed by terrorists on October 2 for alleged links with security forces.

Majid Ahmad Gojri: Gojri, a resident of Chattabal Srinagar, was shot dead by terrorists on October 2 near the Madina complex in the Karan Nagar area. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, J&K police said. He was also suspected of helping security forces.

Makhan Lal Bindroo: A well-known Kashmiri pundit, Makhan Lal Bindroo was shot dead at close range in his pharmacy in Srinagar on October 5th. He was hospitalized but pronounced dead on arrival. Bindroo was 68 years old. He and his family remained in Kashmir through the 1990s, even when militancy was at its peak.

Virender Paswan: A street vendor in Srinagar’s Lal Bazar was shot dead the same day Bindroo was murdered. Paswan was a resident of Bhagalpur in Bihar.

Mohammad Shafi Lone: The president of a taxi rank in Bandipora and a taxi driver, Shafi, were shot dead on the same day as Bindroo and Paswan – the same hour. The Lashkar terrorist Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar, who was on the run after the murder of Shafi, was shot dead by security forces a few days later during an operation.

Supinder Kaur: The headmaster of a Government school in Srinagar, Kaur, a Sikh, was killed on October 7th. Kaur was at Government Boys Higher Secondary School in the Eidgah area when terrorists stormed the compound and shot her.

Deepak Chand: As a teacher at Supinder Kaur’s school, Chand was a Hindu from Jammu. He was shot dead at school around 11 a.m. that same day.

Sagir Ahmed: A carpenter from Uttar Pradesh, Ahmad, was shot dead by terrorists in Pulwama on October 16, police said. Ahmad was from Saharanpur and was critical of the attack on Saturday. He died shortly afterwards.

Arbind Kumar Shah: On Saturday, terrorists shot and killed Shah, a Gol Gappa seller in Srinagar, at close range. He was a resident of Banka in Bihar. He was 30 years old. He was sell gol-gappas outside a park in the Eidgah district when he was killed. Bihar Prime Minister Nitish Kumar has announced Rs 2 lakh compensation for his family, ANI reported.

Raja Reshi Dev: Dev, a worker from Bihar, was shot dead today in a rented shop where he lived in Kulgams Wanpoh.

Jogindar Reshi Dev: Terrorists also shot and killed Jogindar, who was staying with Raja Dev, in the same shop today in renewed attacks by militants. Terrorists stormed the store and opened fire, killing Jogindar and Raja – both from Bihar – and injuring another person. The incident took place near the residence of a former MLA.
