On Thursday, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) – the leading organization of farmers ‘organizations that speaks out against the three agricultural laws – suspended the social activist Yogendra Yadav from the farmers’ organization for a month.
WHY WAS YOGENDRA YADAV EXPOSED?
The request for a suspension of Yadav was made by several peasant unions for meeting the relatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers who were killed during the violence in Lakhimpur.
Sources said Yogendra Yadav was first asked during the SKM meeting on October 21 to apologize for meeting the relatives of BJP workers who were killed during the violence in Lakhimpur that killed four farmers.
When Yogendra Yadav refused to apologize, the SKM decided to suspend him. Sources say the demand for his suspension has been aggressively promoted by peasant unions based in Punjab.
“NO DISCRIMINATION AMONG BACKGROUND FAMILIES”
According to sources, during the meeting, Yogendra Yadav apologized for not consulting his colleagues before meeting the families of the deceased BJP workers in Lakhimpur Kheri.
“But he didn’t apologize for meeting the families of the deceased BJP employees. Yogendra Yadav fundamentally believes that he did nothing wrong by offering his condolences to those who mourned. You cannot discriminate against the bereaved, ”Yogendra Yadav told India Today.
Yogendra Yadav has refused to comment on his suspension from the SKM.
Yogendra Yadav had met the family members of the deceased BJP workers on his way back after meeting the families of farmers killed during the violence in Lakhimpur. The act angered many supporters of the farmers’ continued agitation.
Yogendra Yadav was one of the few SKM leaders to offer condolences to the families of BJP workers killed during the violence in Lakhimpur.
