IND vs. New Zealand, 1st T20I: Highlights

Surya went on to hit his third T20I 50 but got off at a time when India cruised over at 144 for 3 in the 17th. His release gave New Zealand a glimmer of hope and they managed to bring the equation between required runs and balls remaining within touching distance.

In the last three overs, it got too tight for comfort with 21 runs of 18 balls. Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer found it difficult to beat from the start and got off with 5 and 4 respectively.

But Pant stayed calm and managed to get the team over the finish line with their 17 not so many deliveries. His final limit brought the team over the line with 2 balls to go.

Rohit got down against the run of the game against his Mumbai Indians teammate Trent Boult for 48 before returning for a further period to sack Surya for 62 (40 balls).

Previously, Martin Guptill and Mark Chapman brought New Zealand’s entertaining half centuries in the first T20 International here on Wednesday to 164 for six against India.

Guptill (70 out of 42) and Chapman (63 out of 50) kept New Zealand well-placed with an overall score of 180, but Ravichandran Ashwin’s one-two punch in an over slowed the scoring rate.

Ashwin was the bowler pick for India, winning two for 23 in four overs, while senior pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/24 in four overs) also got his swing back.
