The Army assured the Supreme Court on Friday, November 12th, that they will give a standing commission to eleven women who postponed court on claims that their applications for permanent employment have been denied despite meeting all eligibility criteria.
The Supreme Court had previously warned that if they did not do so, army officials would be found guilty of disregard for the court, despite a different decision in a previous case. After the warning from the SC, the army announced that a decision on the female officers would be made at the earliest. The Supreme Court ordered the Army to complete the process of assigning a standing commission to the women officers by November 26th.

The top court said: “We appreciate the fairness of the army authorities in resolving all issues raised by the women’s SSCOs [Short Service Commissioned Officers]. “
The Supreme Court ordered the center in February 2020 to ensure that female officers receive a standing commission (PC) in the army while adding that the officers are now eligible for the position of command. The Supreme Court had also ordered the center to provide a standing commission to any female army officer who elects to do so within three months.
From December 2020, the PC for female officers has also started in junior research groups, in which they are considered for PC in the 10th year of service.
