Chidambaram slams PM Modi over ‘debate-less’ repeal of farm laws


Congress leader and MP Rajya Sabha P. Chidambaram criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday November 30th, suggesting that his assurance of debates on “any subject” was a farce as the agricultural laws were repealed without debate.

“On the eve of the parliamentary session, the Prime Minister offered to debate“ any subject ”. On the first day and during the first business transaction, the farm bills were kept without debate, ”he tweeted. “The bills were passed without debate if the two sides did not agree, the bills were repealed without debate if the two sides agreed. However, there was no debate, ”he added.

“Long live parliamentary democracy without debate,” he said.

The 2021 Farm Laws Repeal Repeal Act was passed in Rajya Sabha on Monday November 29th. Earlier that day, it was clarified in Lok Sabha by a vote.

The 2021 Farm Laws Repeal repeal is one of 26 bills due to be tabled during the winter session of Parliament. The draft law to repeal the three controversial agricultural laws was introduced by the Union’s Minister of Agriculture, Narendra Singh Tomar, in the Lok Sabha and passed with loud slogans from the opposition.

Trinamool MP in the Rajya Sabha Derek O’Brien had also claimed that no debate on the bill would be allowed on Monday.

Chidambaram also brought up the subject Comedian Munawar Faruquis show is canceled. “All in a day-to-day business for the ‘tolerant’ Hindutva Brigade. Comedian Munawar Faruqui’s show is canceled and a church in Matiala, Delhi, is destroyed. We can boast that we are a tolerant nation where all faiths live together in harmony and peace, ”he added.
