Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi criticized stand-up comedian Vir Das on Tuesday November 16 for his satirical video “Dual India”, which he uploaded to YouTube on Monday.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi tweeted, “Generalizing the evils of a few individuals and vilifying the nation as a whole before the world is simply not done! The people who made India face the west as a nation of Saperas and luteras did not cease to exist during colonial rule. “

Vir Das, who is currently in the US, uploaded the video entitled “I come from two Indias”. The monologue in the video was part of his recent appearance at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington DC.
In the six-minute video, Vir Das talks about some of the hot topics in India, from the fight against Covid-19 to rape cases, crackdown on comedians and farmers’ protests.
Clips of the video soon went viral on social media, particularly the part where he said, “I’m from an India where we worship women during the day and gang rape them at night.”
While some criticized Vir Das for generalizing such incidents in India, others praised him for his “brave” demeanor.
While Abhishek Manu Singhvi denounced Vir Dass stand-up act, the comedian found support in another congressional leader – Shashi Tharoor. The Thiruvananthapuram MP said Vir Das was a comedian “who knows that the real meaning of the term” standing up “is not physical but moral”.
“Vir Das spoke for millions in this 6 minute version of the Two Indias he comes from and stands for. That’s a joke, but it’s just not funny. Brilliant, ”said Tharoor.

After Vir Das posted the video on YouTube, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri posted screenshots of two controversial tweets by the comedian from 2010 and 2012.

Vir Das later issued a clarification on the video stating that people were being fooled by edited clips. “The video appeals to us never to forget that we are great. We never want to stop focusing on what makes us great, ”he said.
