The court on Rouse Avenue in Delhi has noted the indictments brought by the Enforcement Directorate and the Central Bureau of Investigation against P. Chidambaram and his son Karti in the Aircel Maxis case.

The court has summoned all of the defendants to the next hearing. MP Rajya Sabha and former Union Minister P. Chidambaram will appear in court on December 20th.

On Monday special judge MK Nagpal had reserved his assignment in the case.

WHAT’S THE CASE?

The case under investigation by the CBI and ED relates to alleged irregularities in the granting of Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) approval under the Aircel Maxis deal.

FIPB approval was reportedly granted in 2006 when Fr. Chidambaram was the Union’s Minister of Finance.

The indictment was filed in 2018 against Fr. Chidambaram and former Treasury officials. The case was then dropped due to a delay in obtaining sanctions for the prosecution of all named defendants.
