In a massive shock to Congress, the former chief minister of Meghalaya, Mukul Sangma, and eleven other people join the Trinamool congress in Meghalaya. With this move, 12 of the 17 MLAs of Congress joined Trinamool.

This comes a month after Rahul Gandhi met former Meghalaya chief minister Mukul Sangma and party president Vincent H Pala about their demands.

Former chief minister and chairman of the congressional legislature, Mukul M. Sangma, and Pradesh congressional committee chairman Vincent H. Pala had not gotten along well since being appointed Meghalaya’s new unit chief.

Sangma had also stated that the party leadership had not consulted him about Pala’s appointment. There has been speculation that Sangma might defected to the Trinamool Congress. However, the two leaders met on Saturday and decided to work together on the upcoming by-elections.

When Sangma was contacted by the Trinamool Congress at the beginning of October, the former prime minister had not yet indicated that he was obliged to join the Trinamool Congress.

After arresting Goa’s former Prime Minister Luizinho Faleiro, the Trinamool Congress contacted him.

Differences had emerged recently between the former prime minister and the high command of Congress, fueling speculation about his exit from the party.
