On Thursday, the Jammu and Kashmiri government opened an administrative investigation into the Hyderpora encounter that occurred in Srinagar on Monday. Four people had died during the encounter; the Have families of the deceased claimed at least three of them were innocent.

On the other hand is that Police in Jammu and Kashmir said a militant, his ally and two civilians were killed in the encounter. They claimed that those killed were “terrorists”.

After relatives of three of the four deceased staged protests alleged their family members were innocent, J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha ordered a judicial investigation into the murders. In addition, political parties, including the National Conference of Jammu and Kashmir and the People’s Conference of Jammu and Kashmir, protested to support families and demand justice.

MAGISTERIAL PROBE

The judicial investigation began on Thursday. Additional District Judge Khurshid Ahmad Shah has been appointed investigator by Srinagar’s Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Aijaz Asad.

Khurshid Ahmad Shah has already issued a public notice requesting anyone wishing to record their testimony in connection with the encounter to contact his office within ten days.

Corpses exhumed from families after their return

The three deceased – Mohammad Altaf Bhat, Mudasir Gul and Amir Magray – protested the murders, which they described as “cold-blooded murder”.

The relatives of Mohammad Altaf Bhat and Mudasir Gul camped outside from Wednesday morning to urge the return of the bodies that had been buried Monday night in Handwara, northern Kashmir.

On Wednesday night, the families were removed from their place of protest by the police. They were taken to the police control room for a meeting with senior officials, where they repeated their request.

In the end, the bodies were exhumed on Thursday and will likely be handed over to their families later that night, officials said.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE

Former Prime Minister Omar Abdullah, who is vice president of the National Conference staged a nonviolent sit-in in support of the nature of the deceased. He was joined by party leaders in the protest near the Jammu Supreme Court residence and the Kashmiri Supreme Court.

“We are sitting here peacefully. If we wanted we would have blocked roads and bridges, but no. There were no slogans, no disorder and order and no roads were closed, ”he said.

He added that his body was buried in Handwara, despite police admitting that the civilian was killed in the crossfire.

PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE FOR GUPKAR DECLARATION

Meanwhile, the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) met at the residence of its President Farooq Abdullah to discuss the situation arising from the meeting.

After the meeting, PAGD spokesman Mohammad Tarigami said they will explore all avenues to “end the culture of impunity and bloodshed”.

“We’re going to write to the President of India tonight and get a credible investigation into the Hyderpora incident. From our point of view, only a judicial investigation can be credible and fair, ”he said.

He added, “The judicial investigation ordered by the government of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be fair because it is against the principles of justice for the accused government to investigate the charges against itself.”

PEOPLE’S CONFERENCE, HURRIYAT CONFERENCE

The People’s Conference and the Supreme Court Bar Association also protested the murders. Besides, the The Hurriyat conference has called for a general strike on Friday about it.
