The chairwoman of the Delhi Women’s Commission, Swati Maliwal, criticized the actress Kangana Ranaut for her comments on the country’s independence.

The actor sparked a storm on Thursday after declaring at a recent event that India was truly free in 2014 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power, calling the country’s independence a “bheek” or alms in 1947.

Tweet the video in which Kangana Ranaut made the remarks at an event organized by a news channel, Swati Maliwal said: “She (Kangana Ranaut) finds Bhagat Singh, (Chandra Shekhar) Azad and (Mahatama) Gandhi’s struggle for freedom as alms, but enjoys the slavery of the ruling government is real freedom. Has it received a national award for this thinking? “

In the 24-second clip, Kangana Ranaut says that India’s independence in 1947 was not freedom, but “bheek” (alms). “… Of course azaadi nahi thi vo bheekh thi. Aur jo azaadi mili hai vo 2014 me mili hai (Of course, what we got [in 1947] was not independence but alms. Independence is what we got in 2014). ”Some people in the audience can be heard clapping.

The always combative Kangana Ranaut, whose Twitter account was blocked, hit back on Instagram.

“Although I clearly mentioned the first freedom struggle of the 1857 revolution that was curbed … which led to more atrocities and atrocities by the British and almost a century later we were given freedom in Gandhi’s begging bowl … yeah aur roo ab” she said in her Insta stories.

Ranaut, who was awarded a Padma Shri earlier this week, also targeted Congress in her remarks on the show. “If we get freedom as a ‘bheek’, is it freedom at all? What the British left behind in the name of Congress … They were the extension of the British …” she said.

In response to Kanagana Ranaut’s remarks, Congress said her remarks were “treason” and called on the government to withdraw the recently awarded Padma Shri for “insulting” the country’s independence movement.

In line with Congress, the NCP on Friday called for the revocation of Padma Shri, which was awarded to the actor, saying it should be booked for insulting freedom fighters.

Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the leader of the Delhi BJP, beat the actor for what she said and called on the judiciary to take action against her. The Delhi BJP spokesman said Ranaut’s remarks were “an insult to the victims of freedom fighters”.

Maharashtra BJP boss Chandrakant Patil also said the comment made by actor Kangana Ranaut was completely wrong. He said the actress can appreciate PM Modi’s work over the past seven years, but she has no right to criticize the struggle for independence.
