The autopsy report in the case of death in Kasganj confirmed hanging as the cause of death. An examining magistrate probe was placed in the case.

A youth who was asked to be questioned at the Kasganj police station in a kidnapping case died in custody on Tuesday. His family members alleged that he was killed by police officers.

However, police claimed Altaf, 22, hanged himself from the hood of his jacket with a string in the police prison washroom. Five police officers were suspended from duty for negligence following the incident.

The deceased youth is the son of Chand Mian, a resident of Nagla Sayyed Ahroli in the Sadar Kotwali area.

Altaf’s father said earlier: “I handed my son over to the police on Monday evening. Barely 24 hours later I was informed that he had hanged himself. “

Meanwhile, Altaf’s father said today he was not satisfied with the ongoing police investigation.

The opposition strikes against the government of Yogi Adityanath

The opposition has attacked Yogi Adityanath’s government for “yet another death in custody”, stating that criminals and the police are committing an “encounter” with law and order in the state under the BJP rule.

Prashant Kumar, ADG (Law and Order), UP Police said yesterday, “The incident is under judicial investigation and based on the results, further action will be decided,” he said.

Altaf was accused of kidnapping and running away with a girl and the girl’s family filed a complaint.
